Novoa Francis Terry (Peru, 1973) has won several competitions comics and fanzines published in various magazines and media. In 2000 he fled his country and took refuge in Spain, where he currently lives and where he wrote short stories for magazines Heavy Rock and Kerrang. Since I saw some of his photographs taken in the French colonies naturist MadridFoto three years ago, I drew a lot of attention, this Brazilian photographer has become one of my favorites. Two of his books so far occupied space in my library. One I bought in Paris a couple of years, and another that asked online. The most recent one by date of publication, Native, is one of the ones I like. Its combination of portraits with landscapes or images of places important to the photographer, I find a great achievement, and is one of the books of canon photography books more and more delight browsing. This year I decided to give away for the holidays the last book of the author, Bordeaux Series, beautifully edited as the above by Steidl. Again we have a book that combines landscapes and portraits. But technical and aesthetic character very different. The landscapes, black and white, the countryside of Les Landes, not far from Bordeaux, hence the title of the book, have a melancholy quality. General scenes are landscapes. I guess environments have a significant space to the author. Soft lights, avoiding exaggerated contrasts in cloudy weather, in any case avoid abrupt transitions. Square or landscape format. Sometimes construction details of the environment. Marked contrast to the portraits. Portraits as usual for the author in people of both sexes and ages between childhood and old, naked. All in the same place, against the same backdrop background pattern in shades of maroon and black, dark, with an old chair with arms and a wooden floor. In this scenario, people lie naked, standing, sitting, lying, in natural attitudes, looking at the camera. No more. No less. People in essence, all in equal conditions for the camera, all different. I said that the age and condition variability is large, but there is a predominance of young adults, who without having the characteristics of the professional models are mostly natural and harmonious. There is an obvious pursuit of natural beauty in the human body. In the person. Very much in line with what we had seen in other author's work, but even more devoid of artifice. In any case, a book that I liked it, and surely as the author's previous, more often lower than others on the shelf to the table to be observed and contemplated. This last author has been controversial throughout his career. As the above has photographed his circle of family and friends at holiday times. Therefore, although the author had seen images through the network, had never made the leap to purchase one of his books. Apprehension. Prejudice. I do not know. In the case of two photographers mentioned, I never had the issue arisen. I've never seen this intention in your images. Always been clear what I was seeing and what was the purpose of the photographers. Perhaps prejudice or prevent the photographer were coming from a man? Maybe. Anyway, I finally decided to buy The Last Day of Summer, editdo by Aperture, and thus have an element lighter material to decide. What I found was a series of portraits taken with a technical and aesthetic quality is absolutely excellent. From what I understand, was mainly used a large format camera, which produces large negative, resulting in prints with a fine texture and detail. It's a great photographic work. There is no doubt that in some of the images of young men and women, the nudity or near nudity, and character of teenagers or young more or less hedonistic representations can lead to a certain eroticism. But again, too, we can say that the "sin" is in the eye of the beholder rather than anywhere else. And I think for anyone healthy and natural, which predominates in the images is the beauty of them more than any other consideration. The cold Errisbeg beach in Ireland, does not seem as good as the images of photographers today or in the
